NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the brief appointment of Sandy Pritchett, to the Seligman Unified School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective December 8, 2020 and will expire on December 31, 2020. This seat was vacant due to the resignation of Board Member Jerome Simpson, due to health issues. We appreciate the service provided by Mr. Simpson to the school district and the community.
The position has been held vacant until the 2020 election cycle was completed. That cycle was completed on Wednesday, November 18th with the “Signing of the Election Canvass” by the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors and the County School Superintendent, which made the results Official and Final. Congratulations to the four Board Members who were successful in the election process; Sandy Pritchett, Ben Emery, Cheryl James, and Charles Cruise. Subsequently, Mrs. Patricia Foy, the only applicant for the vacant seat, was appointed to a two year term, which starts on January 1, 2021 and ends of December 31, 2022.
That would not get the Governing Board back to a five member body until January 1st. Superintendent Carter used the constitutional and statutory appointment power that he holds, to appoint Mrs. Pritchett to the seat earlier than her normal start date of January 1st.
Mrs. Pritchett is a long time former Governing Board Member and President of the Board in Seligman, she received the highest number of votes in the recent election, and she is willing to begin her service early. Mr. Carter is thankful for that. This short appointment gets the Governing Board back to five members, starting with the December meeting. The current Board has recently been deadlocked on some topics with a 2-2 vote.
A swearing in ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th at 5 pm at Seligman Unified School District Governing Board meeting.
Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell).
