NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Brenda Newell to the Congress Elementary School District Governing Board. This vacancy is due to the resignation of Board Member Brian DeShazo, who is relocating out of the school district. We greatly appreciate the service Mr. DeShazo provided to the school and the community.
Mrs. Newell was raised in Saratoga County New York and attended Ft. Edward High School. She later earned a cosmetology certificate and worked in that industry for many years. Mrs. Newell and her husband relocated to the Congress area twenty (20) years ago. She has served as a care giver and a volunteer ever since. She is no stranger to Congress School, where she has continuously volunteered and been recognized by the staff and Governing Board for her efforts.
Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest and resumes from residents before conducting interviews of those who applied. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board and with district administration. He enjoyed receiving communications from citizens who voluntarily shared their views of the candidates. Mr. Carter greatly appreciates the community involvement in this process since it provides a valuable public perspective of the candidates.
Superintendent Carter stated, “It should be obvious to anyone who speaks with Mrs. Newell that she loves kids and this school very much. She believes that education is the key to the future. There is no doubt in my mind that she will work hard to learn the function, powers and duties of the Board and be a supportive partner who is not afraid to speak her mind in a collaborative and respectful fashion.”
The appointment will be effective upon taking the oath of office, currently scheduled for January 13, 2021, and will expire on December 31, 2022.
