Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of David Gordon, Esq. to the Clarkdale Jerome Elementary School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective January 1, 2021 and will expire on December 31, 2022.  This seat was going to be vacant due to the fact that no one filed for the position in the 2020 election cycle.

Mr. Gordon has been a resident of the district since 2005. He graduated from Camp Verde High School and attended Northern Arizona University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English before completing his Juris Doctorate Degree at Western New England College School of Law in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2000.

Mr. Gordon is married, and the couple have three children, who have or are currently enrolled at Clarkdale-Jerome School. Mr. Gordon is an attorney in private practice in Cottonwood. He has previous experience as a lawyer with the City of Glendale, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, and with Boyle, Pecharich, Cline and Whittington in Prescott.

Mr. Carter believes “Mr. Gordon understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. He should relate in a positive manner to all segments of the community and work collectively with fellow Board Members. His long background in the Verde Valley should serve his understanding of local issues well”.

Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest before conducting interviews of those who expressed an interest in the position. Residents of the district should be pleased that two extremely well qualified candidates came forward to be considered for this seat. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board, members of the school staff and administration, and communicated with several area residents and tribal members prior to making the appointment.

A swearing in ceremony is scheduled for all newly elected or appointed members of the Governing Board, January 12, 2021 at 6 pm at the Clarkdale Jerome School District Governing Board meeting.

Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Mr. Smith may be reached at 928-649-8609.
