NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Fizz, to the Canon Elementary School District Governing Board. The appointment will take effect March 1, 2021 and will expire on December 31, 2022.
This seat will be vacant due to the resignation of veteran Board Member Carol Nash, who will be spending considerable time outside of the school district and did not feel it was fair to the public if she continued. The service that Mrs. Nash has provided to the school district and community over several years is greatly appreciated. She will be missed.
Mrs. Fizz graduated from Camelback High School in Phoenix. She attended Scottsdale Community College and received a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in Secondary Education- with an English emphasis. She is a high school Language Arts teacher in the Paradise Valley Unified School District, currently at Pinnacle High School, teaching a wide variety of courses.
Katherine is new to the Black Canyon City community, having lived here since January of 2020. She will meet the one-year residency requirement before taking office on March 1, 2021. She is a mother of three school age children. The County Superintendent believes “Mrs. Fizz fully understands the role of the school and the teaching profession and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. Since she is replacing the only educator or former educator on the Board, this will maintain that information resource, which is many times valuable to the entire Board.
Superintendent Carter accepted letters of interest and resumes before conducting personal interviews on January 11th. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board, and members of the school administration and staff prior to making the appointment. He also received comments from members of the public which he greatly appreciates.
Superintendent Carter said the position yielded two very well qualified individuals who submitted their names for consideration. He greatly appreciates their interest and willingness to serve the public. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Mrs. Fizz may be reached at 602-502-7547.
