Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce two appointments to the Beaver Creek Elementary School District Governing Board.
The vacancies were due to the resignation of Board Member Edward Borowski, due to his relocation out of state and was effective September 10, 2020. Also, Board Member Perry Krowne has decided not to run again and no one ran for the position during the 2020 election cycle, leaving a vacancy effective January 1, 2021. We thank Mr. Borowski and Mr. Krowne for their service to the school and community and wish them both the very best.
Mr. Carter posted these positions on September 11, 2020, seeking letters of interest and resumes from those eligible voters in the district who were interested in being considered for the position. Mr. Carter interviewed four (4) well qualified candidates on October 8, 2020 at Beaver Creek School and spoke individually with the elected Board Members and administration about their thoughts of who should be appointed. Mr. Carter also appreciated several community members who reached out to comment about the candidates as well.
Mr. Lincoln Thomasson and Dr. Raymond Michalowski were appointed.
Mr. Thomasson attended high school in Oregon and attending both Mesa Community College and Arizona State University. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from Trinity University.
Dr. Michalowski attended high school in New York and received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts from Fordham University before completing his Doctorate in Sociology at Ohio State University.
Mr. Thomasson is retired and ended his career as the Chief Operation Officer for Bebout Concrete in the Phoenix. He has coached for Beaver Creek School for several years, a non-paid position that he will be leaving as he becomes a Governing Board Member. He is married with a daughter that attended both Beaver Creek School and Mingus Union. His appointment will be effective December 1, 2020 and will expire on December 31, 2022.
Dr. Michalowski began his career as a high school English Teacher, then taught at Otterbein College, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and began his service to Northern Arizona University in 1991 where he has been a professor and chaired the Criminal Justice Department. He plans to retire in April 2021. He is married. He has authored several publications and provided expert testimony on many occasions. His appointment begins January 1, 2021 and will conclude on December 31, 2022.
Superintendent Carter said that “he is convinced that both Dr. Michalowski and Mr. Thomasson will serve the public well. They have both lived in the school district for an extended period of time, know the community values, and are interested in the wellbeing of the overall community and with the success of students and the school as a whole”.
