Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Eugenia “Edee” Spain, to the Mountain Institute Career and Technical Education School District Governing Board, representing the Seligman Unified School District. This appointment will take effect December 21, 2023, and will expire on December 31, 2024. By law in Arizona, Governing Board seats are “nonpartisan”. This seat will be up for election by voters in the November 2024 election cycle. Mrs. Spain has indicated she intends to run for the seat in the 2024 election cycle.
This seat was vacant due to the resignation of Board Member Meghan Dumford, due to unforeseen circumstances. The services that Board Member Dumford provided to the school district and community is greatly appreciated.
Mrs. Spain was raised in South Carolina and graduated from Saluda High School. She attended Aiken Technical College and received an Associates Degree in General Technology and Paralegal Studies. She served on a Charter School Board in South Carolina, which had a focus on technical education. Edee and her family have lived in Seligman since 2017.
The County Superintendent believes that “Mrs. Spain will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer”. Like a great majority of new Board Members, there will be a learning curve, but I am certain, she will do well.”
Superintendent Carter accepted letters of interest and resumes before conducting a personal interview on December 18th. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Boards of both Mountain Institute CTED and the Seligman Unified School District, and members of the school administration prior to making the appointment. He also received comments from members of the public which he greatly appreciates. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell).
