Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Susan Spigelmire to the Mayer Unified School District Governing Board. This vacancy was due to the resignation of Board Member Becky Young, who did not provide a reason for her departure. We greatly appreciate the service Mrs. Young provided to the school and to local residents. This is a non-partisan office.
Miss Spigelmire was one of five qualified candidates who submitted their letters of interest and resumes, expressing their willingness to seek the post. The community can be proud that so many people were willing to take on this public responsibility. They may all run in the coming election.
Mr. Carter interviewed each of candidates and spoke with a majority of the Board and the administration to get their views on the candidates. The Superintendent also received several comments from community members and several letters of recommendation about those seeking the position.
Miss Spigelmire attended high school in Covina, California and attended Mt. San Antonio Community College prior to completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development at California State University San Bernardino. She earned a master’s in science in Instructional Science and Technology at Cal State Monterey Bay. She began her teaching career in California, working there from 2005 to 2013. She taught Kindergarten at Mayer Elementary School for three years before transferring to Humboldt School District, where she is currently employed at Liberty Traditional School. She still resides in the Mayer Unified School District.
The appointment will be effective February 22, 2024, and will expire on December 31, 2024. Miss Spigelmire has indicated she will run for the seat in the 2024 election cycle. That would be required if she wishes to continue serving on the Board for a full term starting in 2025. Mr. Carter may be reached for comment at 928.925.6560.
