NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Michele McCann to the Mayer Unified School District Governing Board.  This vacancy was due to the resignation of long time Board Member and President Mark Mathern, who is stepping down after twenty-six (26) years of service to the school district, due to health issues. We greatly appreciate the service Mr. Mathern provided to the school and to local residents. Over a quarter of a century of unpaid service to the community.

Mrs. McCann was one of two qualified candidates who submitted their letters of interest and resumes, expressing their interest in seeking the post. Mr. Carter interviewed both candidates and spoke with a majority of the Board and the administration to get their views on the candidates. He also received several comments from community members about those seeking the position.

Mrs. McCann was raised in Wyoming and attended Black Hills State College and has since transferred to Grand Canyon University, where she is two courses short of a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She is married, and the couple have lived in the district for eight (8) years. They have three daughters, one a graduate of Mayer High School, and a current Junior and Freshman at the school. She worked for the school district as a special education paraprofessional prior to becoming a clinical case manager for CareLock LLC, in Cordes Junction. The appointment will be effective January 9, 2023 and will expire on December 31, 2024. Ms. McCann will need to successfully run for the position in the 2024 election cycle if she wishes to continue on the Board for a full term starting in 2025.
