NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Brian Wallace, to the Bagdad Unified School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective February 9, 2023, and will expire on December 31, 2024. This seat was vacant due to the fact that the person who was selected did not actually fill the seat by taking the oath of office and the position is being filled by appointment.
Mr. Wallace is a graduate of Ray High School in Kearny, Arizona and holds an Associate Arts degree in applied learning for Diesel and Electrical Systems. He has been a resident of the district for four (4) years and is married. The couple have two (2) grown children and one student who attends school within the school district and several grandchildren. Mr. Wallace has worked in the mining industry for thirty-three (33) years. He is employed by Freeport McMoran as a Shop Supervisor. His wife also works for FMI.
Mr. Carter believes “Mr. Wallace understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. He appears to relate to all segments of the community and should work well with his fellow Board Members”.
Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest and resumes and held interviews of those who applied. He then spoke individually with elected members of the Governing Board, members of the school staff and administration, and area residents prior to making the appointment. Mr. Wallace was sworn in on February 9, 2023.
Mr. Wallace has indicated he does intend to run for this seat in the 2024 election cycle. That process begins in March 2024 and entails pulling a packet, filing a statement of intent to run, being issued a serial number from the Yavapai County Education Service Agency, and circulating petitions prior to being declared a qualified candidate in mid-summer. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Mr. Wallace may be reached at 480-621-1595.
