NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca (Becky) Austill, to the Seligman Unified School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective July 8, 2022 and will expire on December 31, 2024. This seat was vacant due to the resignation of long time Board Member Charles Cruise, who has relocated out of the school district. We appreciate the service provided by Mr. Cruise to the school district and the community. He was always a pleasure to work with.
Mr. Carter posted the position and accepted letters of interest and resumes. Ms. Austill was the only applicant. The new Board Member attended high school in Davenport, Iowa and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. That was followed by a Master of Arts degree from Northern Arizona University, also in Elementary Education with a Reading Specialist endorsement. She is a twenty-six-year resident of the school district, a retired teacher, and a grandparent of five students who attend Seligman Schools. She interviewed well and is qualified for the position. Mr. Carter spoke with members of the school leadership and individually with seated Governing Board Members for their input prior to making the appointment.
Mr. Carter believes “Ms. Austill fully understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. Her experience as a teacher will continue to be beneficial. He is confident that Ms. Austill will provide her best efforts in serving the public in this position.
A swearing in ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, July 12th at 5 pm, just prior to the Seligman Unified School District Governing Board meeting. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Ms. Austill at 928-830-6969.
