NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has announced a vacancy on the Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District Governing Board, due to the resignation of Board Member Maria Husted. The resignation is due to the fact that her family has relocated out of the community, and she is no longer eligible to serve. The resignation was effective July 4, 2022. The service that Mrs. Husted has provided to the school district and district residents is greatly appreciated.

Because of the proximity of this vacancy to the filing deadline for the upcoming November Governing Board elections, Mr. Carter has determined that this vacancy will not be filled at this time.

Mr. Carter said, “Due to the timeline that filling this vacancy would require, it is in the best interest of all involved to wait until the nomination / election process is concluded to make an appointment. Assuming the current candidates remain in the race, the appointment is expected to be in mid-November after the election has taken place and the canvass has been finalized. There are three candidates for two seats. The two candidates with the highest number of votes will be elected to four-year terms through December 31, 2026. The appointment through December 31, 2024, will be of the candidate who receives the highest number of votes, without being elected outright to a full term.

All school board elections in Arizona are non-partisan. If an eligible registered voter is interested in running for election to the Sedona Oak Creek Unified School District Governing Board.
