NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Sherry Gareis to the Yarnell Elementary School District Governing Board. The vacancy was due to the resignation of Board Member Krystal Balls, who relocated with her family out of the school district. We appreciate the service Mrs. Balls provided to the school district and community.
The appointment will be effective upon taking the oath of office and will expire on December 31, 2022. An election in November of 2022 will determine who holds the seat going forward from that point. Mr. Carter stated, “This Board seat was originally posted in June with no applicants from school district voters. The position was reposted for another thirty (30) day window with no applicants. In late August, it was posted “until filled”. My office sent a letter to every household, with at least one registered voter, within the school district seeking candidates in November. In a democracy, it is incumbent upon voters to participate in the governing process. Thankfully, three residents responded to the letter.”
Mrs. Gareis has owned property in the district for ten years and has been a resident of the district since 2018. She is married and the couple have four (4) children and ten (10) grandchildren. Mrs. Gareis graduated from Apollo High School and attended Glendale Community College and DeVry Institute, where she took general studies and computer science courses. She and her husband own a real estate business in Peeples Valley, Down Home Realty.
Mr. Carter conducted an individual interview prior to speaking individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board and with district administration. Superintendent Carter expressed confidence that “Mrs. Gareis will be a strong addition to the existing Governing Board, offering a unique perspective as a parent and a business owner. I am sure she will work collegially with the other Board Members and serve the diverse interests of the community well”. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell). Mrs. Gareis may be contacted at 623-910-3040.
