NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Kate Pierce, to the Bagdad Unified School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective November 29, 2021 and will expire on December 31, 2022. This seat was vacant due to the fact that Board Member Lucy Gaviglia, resigned as a result of her “retirement from employment from Bashas and wanting to enjoy her time and to live a little”. We appreciate the efforts Mrs. Gaviglia put forward in supporting students and the community while a member of the Governing Board.
Mrs. Pierce is a graduate of the University of Phoenix where she holds an Associate Arts degree in Accounting and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She has been a resident of the district for five (5) years and is married. The couple have two (2) children within the school district. Mrs. Pierce is employed by Freeport McMoran as an accountant. She is a member of the Community Advisory Board.
Mr. Carter believes “Mrs. Pierce understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to balance the needs of students, parents, staff, and the taxpayer. She appears to relate to all segments of the community and should work well with her fellow Board Members”.
Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest and held interviews of several well qualified candidates. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board, members of the school staff and administration, and area residents prior to making the appointment.
Mrs. Pierce has indicated she does intend to run for this seat in the 2022 election cycle. That process begins in March 2022 and entails pulling a packet, filing a statement of intent to run, being issued a serial number from the Yavapai County Education Service Agency, and circulating petitions prior to being declared a qualified candidate in mid-summer. Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Mrs. Pierce may be reached at 605-390-1172.
